Dandelion Health adds Texas Health Resources to Consortium to unlock the unrealized potential of AI and advanced analytics

Texas Health’s work with Dandelion will accelerate clinical AI development for the benefit of patients and physicians

New York, NY – Dandelion Health, Inc. ("Dandelion") announced that Texas Health Resources (“Texas Health”) is the third health system to join the Dandelion Consortium. Texas Health joins two other forward-thinking health systems, Sharp HealthCare and Sanford Health, to unlock the power of de-identified longitudinal clinical data and catalyze the development of responsible AI and analytic tools to improve health.

“The Dandelion Consortium was founded to accelerate innovation in healthcare through the development of transformative technology, such as AI and precision medicine.  By joining forces with large health systems such as Texas Health, we unlock the potential of their clinical data by making it available to a wide range of innovators working on earlier diagnosis, new therapies, and other ways to improve patients’ health" says Elliott Green, CEO and Co-Founder of Dandelion.

Texas Health is a faith-based, nonprofit health system that cares for more patients in North Texas than any other provider. With a service area that consists of 16 counties and more than 7 million people, the system provides quality, coordinated care through its Texas Health Physicians Group and 29 hospital locations. Texas Health access points and services, ranging from acute-care hospitals and trauma centers to outpatient facilities and home health and preventive services, provide the full continuum of care for all stages of life.

"The critical bottleneck to AI development and precision medicine in healthcare is data, especially multi-modal data," says Ziad Obermeyer M.D., Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder of Dandelion. The solution to this challenge is to make representative data available to AI developers, medical device companies and life sciences in a secure and ethical way, which means working with health systems such as Texas Health. “We believe that the Dandelion Platform will herald the next wave of clinical AI development in healthcare by giving researchers access to data that was previously available only at a handful of academic medical centers,” continues Obermeyer.

To help address the issue of lack of representation within this nascent healthcare AI industry, health systems were specifically chosen for their geographic, medical, and demographic diversity, as well as the longitudinal coverage of their patient data. Together, they care for almost 10 million patients. The breadth and depth of the resulting raw data, and Dandelion’s deep expertise in creating high-quality de-identified and HIPAA compliant clinical datasets, positions the Dandelion Consortium uniquely well to provide training datasets and algorithm validation services to AI developers.

"AI has the potential to transform clinical care and improve patient outcomes. We are excited to work with Dandelion to advance the development of novel AI products that will benefit our patients, physicians, and the broader healthcare industry," says Michael Parris, chief data and analytics officer for Texas Health.

About Dandelion

Dandelion is an early-stage startup focused on creating the high-quality, representative clinical data that is necessary to revolutionize healthcare through clinical AI. We equip AI developers with the data and ML tools they need to commercialize algorithmic products that will improve clinical practice and help patients access better care. We are founded by experienced executives within health tech, hospital systems, and academia (e.g., Oscar Health, Mass General Brigham, UChicago, Berkeley). Our expertise in health system operations and algorithmic development positions us to identify and create the datasets that will enable AI developers to solve meaningful clinical challenges.
